The Eden project, one of the largest tourist attractions in the UK since its inception and opening on March 17th 2001 has become the Mother of all Eco projects it seems fitting that they have not only grown their business in the vast Quarry in Cornwall but helped to secure the future of local suppliers too.
One such supplier Green Glass is blooming.............Read their story ...........Turning old bottles into usable everyday drinking glasses.
Green Glass
It seems a natural progression that one Eco project should encourage another which has turned out to become a profitable relationship from one small company in Cornwall.
"in the early days we occasionally had to resort to buying full bottles and drinking them…ah, those were the days!"
Starting its own life in 2000 just a stones throw from the sea in the garden shed of Glenn & Jo Slade. They were inspired by an idea to recycle old green glass bottles whilst on environmental projects in Namibia, Botswana and Swaziland.
" Having bought lots of glasses and admired the simplicity it seemed a fantastic idea that we could develop when we returned to living in the UK"
A simple idea that set out to recycle the bottles that were an environmental problem before hand became a sourcing issue in the early stages and even the Scouts were drafted in to collect the glass.
Eventually, The growth of local collection schemes and increased awareness about recycling means it is getting easier to find bottles – "in the early days we occasionally had to resort to buying full bottles and drinking them…ah, those were the days!"
Juice says: A fantastic Story inspired by another great story. The kind of idea that any business is keen to find in a way that will always appeal.
It pays to go Green!
