Worms

Canoworms Any garden will tell you how important it is to have good aeration in your garden and it is something that can not be achieved properly without the use of worms.

Wormeries have become immensely popular and in time I think it is something that all gardeners should be prepared to consider. Not only for aeration but recycling in general. Almost anything organic can be recycled using worms and the bi product hugely beneficial for the garden.

The re cycle works website offers a rich seam of information regarding buying worms, building or buying a wormery and issues concerning their welfare and uses.

From a gardeners perspective worms are invaluable. When introduced to the soil in combination with a bulky organic matter they digest the material and excrete a humus rich soil waste. The worms also permeate through dense soil structures and in combination with this excretion open up the soil allowing plant roots accessibility to air and aiding free passage for their roots.

I noticed from my research that wormeries are now very popular with fishermen who whilst recycling their kitchen waste are also providing all of the bait they can use in the process.
