I cannot tell you how many times I would turn up at a clients house to survey the garden only to find that on returning to the office I had omitted at least one important measurement that was crucial to the scale and accuracy of the design. It inevitably led to me returning to complete the task before committing the survey to paper.
Sometimes, I asked a client to take the measurement but there is only way of ensuring accuracy and that is doing it yourself.
I have already trumpeted the importance of digital photography in gardening and landscaping. Now, garden and landscape designers can put their digital photographs to very good use with UPhotomeasure .
UPhotomeasure is a very clever software that will enable you to take measurements of your subject up to an accuracy of 99.5% just by photographing your subject.
1. Take a digital photo.
2. Open the photo in the UPhotomeasure program and select the DigiTarget in the picture for reference. The software automatically measures anything in the photo with 95% to 99.5% accuracy (depending on the angle of the photo).
3. Save, print, share and/or archive the photo with the measurements embedded.
You can email the digi target to a client who can print it off and use them remotely to get the references you are asking for in the photo and email it back to you.
It sounds great to me and I think for the $99 dollar fee (about £50.00) it is worth the investment and I would hazard a guess it will pay for itself within a year.
The product, previously called IPhotmeasure, will soon be available as software as a service.
