Jimmy O'connor, an Irish horticulture student has won the Institute of Horticulture's young Horticulture student of the year award and taken the coveted Percy Thrower Travel Bursary.
With the £2,000 prize, Jimmy is now free to fund a horticultural tour anywhere in the world and says he might pop off to Iceland to see what effect climate change has on the country's plants.
IoH president Tony Girard explained how important the competition was in helping to generate interest in finding the next generation of plants men or women.
