Faversham in Kent is the home of the Brogdale Trust national fruit collection. The site boasts 150 acres dedicated to varieties of different fruit and is renowned worldwide - is thought to be the largest collection of it's kind anywhere, with 1880 varieties of apple and 469 and many other different fruits.
Kent news reports that the collection, which was under threat to move location, has been reprieved after DEFRA decided that it was vitally important for the area.
However, the next five years will see a change in stewardship, with Reading University becoming the new custodians and will carry out all maintenance.
