It is the new year, you are feeling fat and frumpy and in need of a little stimulus. The warmer days are still a little while away and not everyone has the urge to brave the cold and get out into the garden.
So what is the next best thing? - I had a look around some of the gardening blogs to see what others are doing, planning or just thinking about.
Vegmonkey - Perhaps it is being a primary school teacher that helps? Vegmonkey has his 2008 planting schedule set out for the season.
Andrew at Lavendon Garden gives excellent advice on getting the notoriously difficult Parsnips started.
I can confirm, through bitter experience after sowing two rows of parsnips in 2005 and looking forward to eating them with my Christmas dinner but the seeds took ages to germinate. My Parsnip seeds rested in the soil for so long that I was convinced they had failed and I over seeded with something else, only to find the Parsnips coming up six weeks later.
Andrew recommends Chitting the seeds first so that they are started off before being transferred to the veg plot.
Gill at My Tiny Plot has really got an exciting 2008 to look forward to after announcing recently, on her blog, that she is expecting a baby, giving up her allotment to concentrate on her own back garden and featuring in the Mail on Sunday for a gardening feature.
Lets just hope Gill finds time for her blog!
Garden Monkey is still busy telling his funny stories and has even started a blogspot blog site.
I am looking forward to seeing some photographs in 2008 and some gardening tips to go with the stories - come GM, show us your garden!
Graham Rice has his feet up by the fire and is busy reading through the 2008 seed catalogues. It sounds like a great way to start off the season before the days become so long that the sun is barely down long enough to rest.
Do you have a garden project or something unusual planned for this year?
