How many of you are in the throws or planning to lay a new lawn this Spring?
Getting lawn preparation right is not an easy task and getting your lawn edging to not only do a job, but also look stylish, is even harder.
Constructing a brick edge is very labour intensive and quite costly. It also involves a fair bit of experience, if the desire to create an eye catcher, is your goal.
Everedge is that great alternative solution that is not really an alternative but more than quite acceptable as the 'first' choice.
The 'fag packet' idea was conceived ten years ago by Alex Hall who needed a solution for his own garden to retain the lawn edges. Since then, Everedge has experience phenomenal success and now exports to 15 countries.
I suppose, when you are involved in the steel business, making use of steel seems a natural step but for Alex rather than use new steel, the product is manufactured using recycled steel, 70% of which comes from the former British Steel company - Corus.
Unsurprisingly, the largest consumer of the Everedge product is the United Kingdom and the United States being the biggest export. However, and this surprised me somewhat, Spain is the fastest growing destination of the Everedge lawn edging system at present (maybe because of the burgeoning ex pat community who still miss that patch of lush green grass?)
If you are in the landscaping or gardening business, chances are you will have seen the Everedge product in someone's garden; but did you know - and this may not be a well know fact - that Everedge is even installed in the world famous French gardens at Versailles? It is also installed at the Hampton Court Palace and other Royal Palaces and stately homes around the country.
Installing Everedge is easy - you do not necessarily need the assistance of a professional.
Cut back your lawn edge to the desired shape and remove all of the waste. Position the Everedge and tap down to the desired level using a rubber mallet making sure that the sections interlock (see website for pictures). You can even bend the sections to form the profile you are looking for.
Make sure that your soil is compacted properly behind the edge so that the mower is able to run nicely against the edge without leaving a hollow.
I am told that not everyone has used Everedge as a lawn edging. One customer bought the product, turned it upside down and installed it around their garden pond to deter the Heron!
