I am going to delve back into the archives to a post, landscaping gardens for profit, I wrote in the very early days of Landscape Juice when the property market was buoyant.
The atmosphere is far from ideal and renovating property is, at the moment, a risky alternative to working for a living.
Those who have the cash, the time and the imagination can still reap some rewards but they will have to be crafty, imaginative and most of all strong.
I really do not think that the UK has caught on to the value of the outdoor space yet.
OK, makeover programs have caused a bit of a bubble but set a rather unrealistic tone and made it extremely difficult for landscaping design and construction companies to provide good gardens and a reasonable cost. Having £500 to spend and taking two days to do it in makes good television but it sure isn't realistic.
I predict that the next phase of property speculation will focus more strongly on the garden and once the property market begins to show signs of life, landscapers may well wish to consider buying property (to live in) but with a view to creating that tempting 'must have' garden with a view to sell it for profit.
Of course, finding the right property is essential. The aspect needs to be right so pay particular attention to the midday sun and work out where the sunrise and sunset will be and what influence this will have on how the garden can be used.
