Are you looking to keep fit, get out and about and meet new people of a like mind?
No, this is not a dating agency but a little project on the Isle of Wight called The Green Gym which gets enthusiastic gardeners and bramble hackers into the countryside and around public places to restore and tidy up overgrown features and places of interest.
Yesterday the group were at Carisbrooke Pond and cleared away brambles and nettles and tidied up rubbish.
It looks as though the weather was kind - unlike the last time the group was there when the heavens opened.
Bob the Blog says "The last time we were there the heavens open and we were soaked - but this time the weather gods smiled on us. The tasks were varied, everything from cutting back weeds & hedges through park bench maintenance."
I didn't think that this kind of camaraderie existed any more but I am clearly wrong Bob goes on to to say his thanks "The hard work put into this site by the GG and other groups is really starting to show, such a wonderful tranquil place just yards from a busy high street. Many thanks to Hilary for being the cub photographer this week."
The previous group visit was to Ventnor Botanical Gardens.
The Green Gym operates in conjunctions with The Footprint Trust who are an environmental charity that operates on the Isle of Wight and their mission -
"We are dedicated to working with the Island’s community to promote the benefits of sustainable living"
