Trees Please of Corbridge, Northumberland have been awarded a contract to supply 54,000 trees as part of the landscaping of the A69 Haydon Bridge bypass.
The firm, which has grown the trees and hedging on its ninety acre nursery, will supply a mixture of semi mature trees and hedging for the 2.9 kilometre stretch of road.
The Haydon Bridge section of the A69 is the last single carriageway section is the last significant stretch of the A69 to be bypassed and it will relieve the settlement of approximately 12,000 vehicles a day and the Highways agency expects the road improvements to be completed by late spring 2009.
Trees Please, which was formed in the early 1980's sells over 2.5 million trees a year from large scale forestry and commercial projects down to private domestic landscaping.
Trees Please operations manager Ed Holmes says: “This is one of the highest-profile ongoing projects in our sector, so as a local company, it is extremely pleasing for us to be able to win this tender and help make a lasting mark on the county’s landscape.
“The combination of competitive pricing and the quality of products that we grow and supply has enabled us to beat off competition from other suppliers, and preparatory work is already underway for the first trees to be lifted when our harvesting season begins.
“Trees Please has become and remains successful by meeting international standards of production process, sales, distribution and after care whilst also maintaining close individual links with customers, many of whom come back to us on a regular basis, and our location provides ideal conditions for both the plants we grow and our business’s ongoing development.”
