Congratulations to Heather Gorringe and the team at Wiggly Wigglers for winning the inaugural Global Dell Small Business Excellence Award.
Heather Gorringe started Wiggly Wigglers in 1995 in a tiny village in Herefordshire.
In the first year, WW turned over just £6,000 but twelve years later (2007) that turnover had risen to 2.5 million pounds, go forward another twelve months and the business is truly global - and it is all due to harnessing of the Internet.
Heather has really wrapped herself around the Internet to get her message across and her crusade, via her personal blog - Heather Gorringe - Around the World in 80 Megabytes - is seeking to "shake up farming using Web 2.0 and Social Media."
I have always felt that the WW model was an excellent mix: Internet, worms, environment, rural based business reaching out, passionate people running it.
The website makes me feel like Emmerdale Farm crossed with the Archers because it is all revolving around life at Lower Blakemere Farm in rural Herefordshire.
“We are thrilled to receive this award and can’t wait to start blogging and podcasting with our customers all over the world to let them know,” - ironically, this news is still not on their blog.
"Cut its advertising budget by 80 percent when the company turned to social media over traditional advertising" - a direct message to all small business owners who have not yet turned to the web.
