Forget where to buy your Christmas tree this year and start thinking about where to rent because the next big thing in the 'environmental' market place is Christmas tree rental.
Innovative tree surgeon Martin Cake from Charminster in Dorset has over 500 pot grown trees ranging in size from 2 feet (60cm) to 10 feet (3m).
Martin will deliver the tree to your door for free (within a certain area) and collect again after Christmas.
His company is called www.treesforrent.com.
I called Martin this morning to discuss his enterprise and he told me that he originally had this idea five years ago but conceded to himself that the market was not ready but now, with so many environmental issues concerning society coupled with the financial consideration facing households, this was exactly the right time to launch the idea.
The only thing that surprised Martin is that it had never been done before.
GMTV are coming down at 10 am and a host of local TV, radio and newspapers have picked up on the idea.
Martin says: "Christmas trees can take five to ten years to reach maturity but quite often they only get used the once and then thrown away."
If you want the same tree back the following year, it will be tagged and returned again - The service costs £35.00.
What do you think, if you had an opportunity to rent to save money and preserve the tree, would you do it?
