'Change is coming' - Like an echo that will not die, this is the cry that is resounding across America.
Since the day Barack Obama won the United States presidential election and despite the ugly meltdown of the whole financial system, America, and with it the world, has new hope and opportunity.
Whatever walk of life you come from and whatever country that you live, you will feel this wave of change in the coming twelve months impact upon your life.
Obama has inherited a mess from others who couldn't or wouldn't understand what ordinary people needed to prosper in their short life.
Only money and greed were important and the more money, the greedier the high fliers got.
Their greed filtered down to ordinary people who had to become greedy to stay up with an uncontrollable rise in assets values and monetary wealth but unfortunately, the vast majority got left behind or had to borrow to survive - the crash has been catastrophic.
Watch this video of an ordinary man making extraordinary changes.
Those that caught the greed bug were sucked in and are now paying the high price. Asset values have crashed and with it, the dreams of buy-to-let and property portfolios.
Despite having to sanction an $800 billion package - one that will take many years to pay off - just a few weeks before taking office, Barack Obama, President Elect, will change our world forever and I believe, by June 2009, we will begin to see green shoots emerging - not just economic changes but changes in the way we all look at our lives and what is important.
It is not going to be a straight run and there will be many knocks along the way and sure, it is already too late for some people.
Instead of material wealth creation I feel strongly that we are about to see spiritual and family wealth creation. Instead of a the biggest flashiest car, we will be judged and judge others on attitude towards safety and environmental issues.
It is the time to think strongly about going long on anything to do with recreation and family life. Gardens and landscaping will prosper immensely from this change in attitude with emphasis on recreational and family space.
Think large rustic wooden tables and verandas leading onto terraces and directly into the garden. Think wide open expanses of grass with vegetable areas, chicken houses and fruit.
Gone will be exotic and indulgent landscapes on a wide scale - although there is always a place for any style or form.
Keeping up with the Joneses costs society dear and now it is time for community, laughter and soil.
Only this week we had neighbours who came for dinner and we talked about a community vegetable patch and logging days, to ease the cost of living.
This crash will be remembered in history for a long time but after the pain, we will remember how it brought change.
