I take whirlwind but random tour around a few blogs to see what others are doing at the start of the new year. My journey starts by selecting a blog and then randomly picking the next blog from the their blogroll.
First port of call is John Curtin of the Spade Work who is trying an experiment to grow potatoes from true seed.
John says he has been inspired by others doing the same experiment but is not going into it with the benefit of hindsight.
The potato seeds, described by John as 'ripe, soft and sweet smelling, like the ripest bunch of grapes you've ever come across' but I note the warning about the concentration of glycoalkaloids that are 15-20 times more poisonous than potato tubers that have turned green.
A random pick of John's blog list takes me to Pumpkin Soup run by Clare and Owen, where they chat about their allotment on Warstock Lane in the Kings Heath area of Birmingham - great looking site, right next to the golf course.
What particularly attracts me to Pumpkin Soup is the openness and great 'About' page - as a surfer, I hate to see anonymity and love to connect with the blogger.
Check out the recipe page - now that I have two whopping great big manure heaps, I think I have to try the classic pumpkin soup.
The third blog was hard to find and although it was a random choice, it was about the fifth random choice. I am amazed at the amount of neglected or discontinued blogs.
I am pleased though to find Michelle Duck's - Duck Dinner Dash.
It is January 2nd and Michelle has announced the arrival of her pea crop - although she said that the peas had been in their so long that she had forgotten about them.
If you like an occasional ahhhh! then have a look at the pictures of the seal pups at the Donna Nook seal sanctuary in Lincolnshire.
Why not give it a go - find a blog and see where it randomly takes you.
