Society of Garden Designers member, gold medal-winning garden designer and RHS horticulturalist Janine Pattison is not letting the present financial climate interfere with her expansion plans and has partnered with Compton Acres in Dorset.
Janine is planning to offer a series of specialist workshops through the Janine Pattison Garden School including basket weaving by Master willow-weaver, Malcolm Seal.
In March, garden writer and regular of Gardeners World Sarah Raven will be running a one-day workshop.
Janine explains what inspired her new venture:
“When I’m out and about working as a garden designer or horticultural consultant, I’m often asked where’s the best place to learn some basic gardening skills, but without the pressure of a professional course. People often just want a ‘taster’ day, a bit like a ‘spa-day’ - somewhere they can have a go at something new and fun. I realised there was nowhere I could recommend, other than formal college training.
“The ethos behind the Janine Pattison Garden School is that it offers anyone from novice to advanced level an opportunity to enjoy a creative day out - accompanied by great food in a luxury location - so we’re delighted to be working with Compton Acres. The garden attraction will offer inspirational surroundings which we hope will help everyone get the most out of the courses”
The Compton Acres Gardens ten acre estate is an example of late Victorian gardens and historical record.
The gardens were built in 1929 after margarine entrepreneur Thomas William Simpson spent the equivalent to £10 million in today's prices after buying the land near Sandbanks at Canford Cliffs.
Simpson wanted to create garden features based on his experiences and travels around the world. There is an Italian and Japanese garden together with a wooded walk and water garden.
