After spending six years in magazine publishing, Kate Collyns decided to switch careers and enter the wonderful world of organic vegetable growing as an apprentice at Purton House organic farm in Wiltshire.
Kate, writing on her blog page on the Soil Association site says that today, society's priority is 'skew-whiff' and that her predictive side is telling her that this year will be the one that Britain's domestic food security will become one of the hottest topics.
Kate feels there is an unrealistic disparity in pay between the pay of farmers and growers who produce our food and those who work in the banking industry for example.
Purton House is situated in North Wiltshire consisting of 160 acres including 110 acres of permanent pasture, ten acres of woodland and thirty acres of land set-aside for organic vegetable and fruit growing.
The Soil Association is a registered charity that offers some free assistance and information for anyone considering going organic.
