I must admit that it did seem a risky strategy by News Corporation to remove its content from the Google search engine but now I can see why - if the rumours are true.
Microsoft are reported to have offered to pay Rupert Murdoch to list his news giants content on its Bing search engine.
If Microsoft and News Corp see this through it could mean publishers being paid for its content.
The way I read it, basically, Microsoft will be paying the publisher his share of any pay-per-click advertising in advance based on an estimate of traffic. Microsoft will then increase its PPC revenues because it has a monopoly of traffic.
I still think it's a risky business and I don't think it is a strategy that horticulture publications dare follow as the just don't carry the same weight as the big news agencies.
Whether this strategy turns out to be the right move for Murdoch remains to be seen.
