After four hundred years, beavers are once again roaming the wilds of the British Isles after a carefully controlled programme of release in the Knapdale Forest in Scotland.
What is little known is that Hertfordshire has its own beaver colony; and for a while, one beaver enjoyed some freedom after escaping from the Paradise Wildlife Park.
The Daily Mail made a bit of a thing of it but wrongly reported that the tree was a Silver Birch.
"the daily mail did get the tree species wrong and it is a willow - or was a willow. As yet it is hard to tell if the tree will survive or not as it is not really accessible unless by boat." said Peter Blackaby, Course Manager at The Hertfordshire Golf & Country Club.
Peter kindly sent me this photo...I would stick my neck out and say the tree's a gonna.
