2010 has been designated the International Year of Biodiversity with a focus on how man-made change is continuing to threaten a vast array of plant and wildflife species.
The Adonis Blue Butterfly, the Greater Horseshoe Bat and the Honey Bee are just three threatened species whose plight will be highlighted.
Biodiversity plays a part in all of our lives but it is claimed that much of the worlds unique ecology is being lost or disrupted at an alarming rate.
Defra's website is displaying a calendar of events and information of what is being done throughout this year, including its partnership with the Natural History Museum.
