
I have been thinking in the last few days about how technology in the garden has helped to shape horticulture in a way the likes of Gertrude Jekyll or Capability Brown would never have imagined.
Of course technology has always evolved the process even in the days when a horse drawn gang mower was replaced for the first time with a powered unit.
But what technology, in use today, has brought real time savings or quality to a task that would otherwise have taken twice as long manually or on the contrary, what technology has made tasks expensive without the cost saving?

It appears that things are going from bad to worse for the organisers of the Southport Flower Show.
You will remember I highlighted their website for the show and how it came to an abrupt end after the show just when the information flow would have been at its peak. Now sadly, instead of getting the page 'new site coming soon' you get a broken link page.
This in my opinion is seriously damaging the credibility of the show and heavens knows how much important advertising revenue has been lost for its sponsors.

The Landscape industry is notorious for the 'cowboy' element and you might see a rogue trader on the BBC at any time rooking the unsuspecting who have not done their groundwork sufficiently.
