Gary Mumby had brought Blec's machines to the Creating Landscapes show. Which one is his current favourite?

At the moment it is the Power Box Rake cultivator that tills the ground, moves earth, stone rakes and even scarifies the turf. There are many, from a small walk behind one upwards. In the video he demonstrates one on the back of a tractor.

How many exhibitors did Saltex actually get in 2011?

We'll have to wait and see what the official audited ABC figures say but there seems to be more than a little confusion about how many exhibitors the 2011 IOG Saltex show actually did have.

If you believe the official version (and I don't) then it's 446 but Peter Britton of Pitchcare is having none of it.

In his post-show review: Saltex - how was it for you? Peter comments: " The IOG put out a plethora of press release prior to the show claiming, depending on which one you read, that there were over 400, over 420, around 440 exhibitor in attendance. I would contest those [IOG] claims, and my facts come from IOG sources. On the Saltex section of the IOG website 331 exhibitors are listed (as of today, Friday 9th September).

Indoor stands all but sold out at Creating Landscapes

We are exactly eight weeks from the inaugural Creating Landscapes Trade Show but we've already all but sold out of indoor exhibition space.

Just one 3m² stand is left to go with a 16m² stand reserved for a large machinery and power tool company.

Outside space is selling well too. Hardwood decking importer and supplier, Wood and Beyond have today confirmed their booking of stand 301 for their first ever landscape trade show.

Scotts Miracle-Gro reveals its plans for Glee

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company has revealed a taster of its plans for this year's GLEE show.

There will be several new product launches that Scotts claim will fill existing gaps in the garden care market, that solve problems that gardeners face and will become top sellers in their categories. These include new weedkillers, growing media and lawn seed.

Scotts’ Trade Marketing Manager, Jane Hartley, said: “Glee is the major trade show and one that Scotts so successfully uses to promote its extensive range of known and trusted brands and products. But our display this year will also have several fabulous new products that we know will become market leaders. And the stand itself will contain something never before seen at Glee. You’ll just have to wait until September to experience it for yourself and we are sure that you will be inspired.”

Scotts will be in Hall 5 stand B26/C25.

What do visitors want to see at a landscape and garden trade show?

It's been an interesting but fun journey so far organising 'the trade show for the landscape and garden industry', Creating Landscapes.

I've learnt so much more and I've gotten a very valuable insight of what it's like being on the other side, as it were.

I can sense from the telephone calls and emails I send that some product and service suppliers are overly hardened an unresponsive to new ideas. Convention is their safety net and I've a strong feeling that they dare not venture outside anything they know.

Problem is the market place is a changing changed world and I really do fear for that some marketeers are not adapting fast enough.

I've just been looking at our visitor registration form and I thought I'd share with you some of the requests we've had - if you're a potential exhibitor, it might be the incentive you are looking for to commit and if you're a potential visitor, it'll give you an idea of what others in the trade are looking for too.

Creating the right landscaping show for the garden trade

The brand new Creating Landscapes Trade Show will be the final event to launch into what some might think is fast becoming a fairly compacted space.

But whilst there have been two other landscape shows (re)launched this year, Creating Landscapes doesn't fit the mould of anything that's previously been done before.

Sure there are exhibitors and there are visitors but that's where any similarity ends because what we are trying to do, and it's always been my motivation, is to bring some reality to a trade exhibition.

German groundscare manufacturing enjoys good growth

In the past year, gardening and landscaping machinery and equipment with a value of approximately €500 million was manufactured in Germany – representing strong growth of around 17 percent.

In 2011 the industry expects a 10 percent rise in domestic turnover.

The bi-annual demopark+demogolf expo says gardening and landscaping appears to be a real growth industry.

This is not only thanks to economic stimulus packages in recent years but private investors are seeing the opportunities for growth.

Landscape show hotting up with new exhibitors

I've got to make an apology for not being my normal self recently.

I know many of you only pop in for the insightful behind the scenes look at commercial horticulture and landscaping and it's been a while since I posted any hot gossip; I'm hearing plenty but my days are long at the moment (not that they've ever been really short) due to organising the Creating Landscapes show for this October.

There's still a long way to go but I'm really pleased to report (and that's not PR talk, that's me being sincere here) very good progress under what can only be described as very testing economic conditions.

As it stands at the moment we are on target for 50-60 exhibitors but judging by the conversations I am having with the companies we've approached or who have gotten in touch, this figure could swell to over eighty.

Capel Manor brings the gardens to life

Capel Manor College is a hub of activity, in a surprisingly relaxed place, being 15 miles from central London, writes Carol Miers.

Driving on the A10 the GPS said my destination was a right turn ahead, but until I saw the estate wall and entrance there was no sign of its whereabouts. It was only after the Manor gates that there was a marked change of atmosphere.

Capel Manor is hosting the Creating Landscapes show on 25-26 October 2011 and I thought I would take you around to find out what kind of place it is.

Saltex warn of 'free' catalogue listing approach

The organisers of the Saltex trade show have warned unwary companies to be careful when being approached by companies who purport to be representing Saltex.

In an emergency warning on its website the organisers says: "Unsuspecting exhibitors who sign and return the form are then contracted into a three-year, nonretractable [sic] agreement, which could cost you a significant amount of money, with no foreseeable benefits.

"In the small lines below the form is mentioned that the costs are €971 per year, for the duration of three years. Unfortunately a lot of people do not see this and sign the contract."

The warning concludes: "These companies have no connection with us or any of our events"
