China has sapped supply of softwood fencing panels by apparently buying up huge stocks of wood from around the world to fill the huge demand created by its construction boom.
B&Q and Travis Perkins, the UK's two largest sellers of fencing panels have admitted that there is a temporary shortage.
I am somewhat perplexed by the claim that storms across Europe have resulted in a shortage of the softwood needed for production. Surely, this should have meant costs would come down for producers who did not have to cut the trees down? Who is kidding who? This appears to be a marketing ploy.
Luckily, Canada, one of the largest forested countries of the world has re-entered the supply chain to ease manufacturers concerns.
I do not know what I find the most disturbing. The lack of usable material to fulfil demand or the fact a tree can be cut down in Scotland and it bypasses a British sawmill to be sent to China?
Does China not have forests? Come on for goodness sakes, lets get back to community supplies as soon as possible.
