You only have to get in one little scrape when a contract goes awry to realise how important having terms and conditions is for your business.
This thinking is both correct for you as the business owner and supplier and also you as the customer.
Agree the terms and conditions of the job before a contract starts and ironing out any misunderstandings or problems is so much easier.
Most people probably would not like to believe this but I assure you from experience, if terms and conditions are not put firmly into place before a contract starts then it is likely that both parties will try and stretch things out and usually at the cost of a perfect job.
Avoid scenarios like this:
- Customer - You said you would do this included in the price.
Contractor: I never did, I always maintained that was an extra.
Having little inserts into the Terms and Conditions is preferable. If a Client asks you to remove the sub base of the old shed from site for example then insert a special condition, written specifically for the task, that makes it clear that this shall be done so at either a fixed cost or at a rate pro-rata per cubic metre or tonne.
I have covered this once already here but thought it was prudent to highlight this once again.
