I bet, like me you have have loads of seeds in a little box and the box is so full you need a bigger box?
How many of you also find that you separate the foil package from the packet with the picture on it and cannot remember what was in the packet?
Here is a great little tip for filing away your seeds in an ordinary filing cabinet and what is more, you can transfer these easy to make germination sheets straight from your folder directly into a seed tray.
Using an ordinary piece of A4 paper (if you can afford to use rice paper or industrial hand towel -the perforated type - then even better) cut the sheet so that it will fit inside a a normal seed tray.
Lay the paper onto a clean surface and brush liberally some cornflower glue over the surface.
Now take your left over seed and sprinkle this onto the page. Lift the sheet and the excess will fall off. Try and imagine what coverage you will sprinkle onto a seed tray?
Lay a second piece of paper on top of the seeded paper while the glue is still wet and firm this down.
Let the paper, with the seed sandwiched between the two, dry. You can then add a description together with dates, written in pencil directly onto the paper.
If you only want to sow a few seeds, lets say they are lettuce seeds, then you can cut off a small section to use.
When you are ready to germinate the seeds, lay on top of your compost and soak thoroughly. The seed will germinate and push through the paper and when they are strong enough you can prick them out.
The great thing is, these A4 germinations sheets can then be files directly into a ring binder folder as long as you keep it dry.
Ordinary kitchen towel or toilet paper can be used but bear in mind this tears a little easier and absorbs moisture. You will find it better for germinating in but there is a need to handle any seed in thin tissue delicately.
