Ok the headline might just be a bit too sensational but it goes to show, if you are eagle eyed and perhaps a plantsman too then there might just be that little gem hiding in a plant tray somewhere.
Graham Rice, over at the Transatlantic Plantsman is waiting to find out if the variegated Alchemilla mollis is stable enough to reproduce without reverting back to its normal green form.
Finding new plants is a tricky thing but Mother Nature does throw a variation out occasionally and if you are in the right place at the right time, then it could make you a fortune.
Do you remember I told the story of Peter Catt of Liss Forest Nurseries who did indeed make his fortune by discovering, registering and selling the Choisya ternata 'Sundance'.
Unfortunately, despite a detailed search I cannot find more details on Peters story other than what he told me personally.
I will return to see if Graham has been successful at a later date as he has promised to update us regardless of being a success or failure.
