I have to start with an apology. I have realised that making this garden bench might have seemed simple to me, but I do have the right tools for the job and I don't expect you to necessarily have the same.
I have now eased the edges of the oak cross brace by cutting a wavy edge with the jig-saw - this certainly makes the whole structure look softer and is in keeping with the rustic look.
I will finish it off with either a little light oil or clear wax so that I do not lose the natural look of the wood.
Now that it is done I am not so sure I want to put it into the garden because, and I hope this doesn't sound big headed, I am delighted with the result and it looks too good to be exposed to the vagaries of the weather.
What do you think, indoors or out?

Ha, you'll have to make another one now - one for inside, another for the garden!
It's very nice, and will look good wherever you put it.
