The Gardenmakers, a Banbury based landscaping company has received the Supreme Winner Accolade for 2009 in the Association of Professional Landscapers annual awards.
The firm also scooped the award for a project over £50,000 beating fifty five other projects that had been submitted by firms across the United Kingdom.
The impressive £200,000 terraced garden was designed by Stratford-upon-Avon based designer Sally Hopkinson and was chosen by the judges because of the attention to detail and the craftsmanship, especially with the riven Yorkstone paving and its detailing.
APL vice chairman Mark Gregory said: "The Gardenmakers is clearly a company with good technical skills. The planting, design and maturity set this scheme off to its full potential; a superb scheme throughout and a pleasure to judge.”
Directors of Gardenmakers Tim Mawle and David Sewell said: "We were delighted to pick up the award for the category we entered but to then win the overall award as well against some of the biggest and best-known names in the landscaping profession was unbelievable!."
Designer Sally Hopkinson added ‘It was a very exciting project to be involved with. The Gardenmakers team were a real pleasure to work with from start to finish and it is wonderful to see them get the recognition they deserve.’

The garden took six months to complete and features paths of York stone complete with terraces and a viewing point looking out over the countryside below. Previous to construction, the garden contained steep slopes and was pretty much wasted space.
Attention to detail was to such a high standard that the rendering of the house and the garden walls was completed at the same time to ensure the same gauge of mix and exact colour ans texture match.
The site was previously thought to have a medieval watchtower and a handmade pebble mosaic was created to commemorate this.
Dave Sewell of The Gardenmakers, who is also a member of the Landscape Juice Network, told Landscape Juice: "Many elements have to combine to make a garden like this. First you need a client with the available funds and the desire to create something truly special.
"Then you need them to trust you. After that you need a designer who can combine creativity with a very solid and realistic knowledge of the build process and finally you need a contractor with the breadth of skills and attention to quality and detail who can work with the designer to fulfil the clients dream.
"That’s what happened with this garden. Sally Hopkinson, the designer, created a superb scheme and Tim’s ability to control a long and complex build enabled The Gardenmakers to create a garden that we are all immensely proud of. The finished scheme was the icing on the cake – the APL award is the cherry on top!"
Dave concluded: "What can I say?! This award is amazing and a real boost for us. The Gardenmakers have a great reputation for constructing large and complicated gardens so this build was right up our street.
"The site was really challenging for the designer but Sally made a terrific job of combining her usual creativity with the practical restraints of the slope.
"Combine that with Tim’s ability to control a long and complicated project and the result is what you see today."
