Google have rented a herd of goats, as well as the services of a sheep dog called Jen, to keep the grass nibbled down at its headquarters at Mountain View.
Described as a low carbon solution, the goats costs roughly the same as using mechanical methods. Google also say that the goats are a lot nicer to look at.
The goats are supplied by California Grazing who say they maintain a herd of eight hundred that can be deployed on projects of land restoration eating through live and dead weeds and also thick brush and brambles.
Google says on its blog: "A herder brings about 200 goats and they spend roughly a week with us at Google, eating the grass and fertilizing at the same time."
Wow, this is typical of Google... a clever and clean solution to a common problem. Plus Google employees will now have a nice bucolic scene when they look out the window!
