David, David, David! I have just read your 'Happy Christmas' message on the Landscaper website and I have to say, I can really tell that you are one of the 'old school' when it comes to journalism.
"We are about to enter the last year of a decade dominated by solid growth and good trading for almost every part of the landscaping industry." Really, can you provide me and the rest of the landscaping industry with some evidence or proof to back up this claim?
You only have to look at the drop in the Landscaper Magazines subscription numbers* to see how it has impacted on magazine revenues. Although it is harder to find information on Metropolis Publishing, just a gander at the news-flow coming out of Haymarket is enough to satisfy readers that this recession is biting deep.
...and by the way, there is nothing exclusive about the fastest lawn mower story, I covered it (first) much more extensively than just re-printing most of their press release. Landscape Juice even bothered to show its readers some of the history that goes with Pendine Sands and how the first land-speed record was set by Malcolm Campbell.
*Please let me know immediately if my numbers are wrong. I did contact Ray Ibrahim (you were away) at the time I published so I assume the numbers are correct?
I have also read your coverage on the recent BALI awards - I wonder, as commentator of the UK landscaping industry, are you not concerned by the lack of smaller landscaping and gardening companies who won an award?
