There is nothing enjoyable about hitting a deep pothole in the road; the recent icy conditions means that it is something that the British motorist is going to have to put up with through this year, as hard pressed highway maintenance gangs try and keep up.
As holes are being filled, new ones are opening up as water, snow and ice infiltrate into the tarmacs weaknesses; expanding as the water freezes, then melting and letting in more water; further freezing causes greater stress.
£63 million was spent during 2009 filling in just under one million holes - due to the severe weather, 2010 is expected to see this figure exceeded; local authority budgets will be stretched to the limit.
Landscape Juice member, Instarmac Group have been providing highways maintenance solutions for over 30 years with its cold lay macadam and recently launched Ultracrete permanent pothole repair - Instarmac marketing manager, Sarah Rose, told me that since the two waves of ice and snow in the United Kingdom, they have been inundated with calls and even appeared on the national BBC TV news talking about their products.
