IOG Saltex needs a rethink and should go to a bi-annual format says Greentech managing director, Jonathan Turner.
Speaking to me at the final day of Saltex, Turner said that the Institute of Groundsmanship hadn't kept up with the pace of change and it really was time to take stock.
Greenmech - makers of wood chipping machinery for light forestry arboriclture work - have been exhibiting at Saltex for fifteen years and Turner says that in recent years the visitor numbers had notably decreased although he did speculate that from the aboricultural exhibitors viewpoint, this year's inaugural APF forestry exhibition may have a bearing on why some of their industry peers had stayed away from Saltex.
Turner listed some heavyweight names absent from Saltex 2010; Kubota, John Deere, Jensen, Vermeer, Schliesing.
On a positive note, Jonathan Turner said that Saltex traditionally serves them well and I spoke to Jonathan's colleague Julian Cullis yesterday and he told me that they had closed some deals at the show and expected the next couple of weeks to be busy as a result too.
