Just how important to our health and well being are the parks and green spaces of the UK?
Charitable group, GreenSpace, believes they are very important and with spending cuts already having an impact, they say the pressure has to be kept up to ensure people see the value of parks.
Martin Page, chairman of GreenSpace, said: "We are at risk of seeing quality decline, which will lead to a drop in use; this in turn will have severe effects on health and well being – mental, physical and social.
"Plus let’s not forget if we lose these spaces the effect on the environment and economy, disinvestment in parks and green spaces makes no strategic or economic sense."
Mental health charity Mind is equally supportive of green spaces, their Ecominds campaign promotes the benefits that outdoor activity can have on conditions including depression and anxiety.
And bringing together different groups who have a strong belief in the benefits of parks and green spaces is one of the key elements of a GreenSpace conference later this year.
Set to take place in November, GreenSpace will be working in partnership with Natural England to look at the potential health benefits from parks and green spaces.
With keynote speaker Dr William Bird highlighting why we should be reinvesting in parks as the panacea.
