Watching my Twitter stream this morning it's apparent that the majority of businesses in the landscape sector shut down for two weeks over Christmas.
It makes sense and I have to admit that it was the one time of year during my landscaping career I was happy to close the office door for a few days and not be too bothered about the phone or email.
During my annual summer holiday it was different as I always fretted and kept in touch with the office, just in case. But at Christmas I always felt able to switch off and enjoy some time with my family.
I also made use of the Christmas break to do some planning for the coming year. With a quiet office, silent phones and little demand for my time, I was able to see a clearer picture of what path the imminent new year would take my business.
My work today is so different.
Although not landscaping any more I am still very much involved in the landscape industry. My day-to-day duties involve aggregating news and informations that landscape practitioners may find useful and of interest to their respective businesses.
Off-site work includes helping members with their business challenges, pointing them to information or just being a friendly ear. It's a fairly non-stop occupation.
Landscape Juice (LJ) has become a different tool to so many people working in the landscape industry. LJ is not only a business tool but, for some, literally a life-line and I think this assumption can be borne out by looking at our Christmas day visitor figures.
On Christmas Day some 410 people visited the Landscape Juice Network (LJN). On Boxing Day, 639 people visited LJN. The returning/new visitor split was pretty much 50/50.
From Christmas Eve to the 02 January, LJN had 8,143 visitors - although the returning/new numbers showed a greater number of visitors via search.
Did some pinterest over the holidays. Thinking I must be the only one without a 'life'.
The number of repins told me otherwise !
Happy New Year, thank you for all you do.
Garden & Be Well, XO Tara
