I have been a long-term believer that we are under-selling the health and medicinal benefits of plants.
Herbal remedies have been around for as long as man has existed on this planet but their benefits have not always been recognised.
Indeed anyone who evangelised about the use of plants for medicinal purposes could be accused of sorcery and witchcraft.
Luckily, today, people are waking up to the potential of the chemicals held within plants and trying to understand what uses they hold.
I was particularly interested in an article on the BBC website by Dr Chris Van Tulleken.
Dr Van Tulleken looks at what Rosemary does to your brain.
He took part in an experiment where and infusion of Rosemary oil was placed in a room whilst 60 people were given test to do. They were not told about the presence of the oil infusion.
The tests revealed that Rosemary oil increased the memory powers of those who participated.
This paragraph spiked my imagination: "It turns out that there are compounds in rosemary oil that may be responsible for changes in memory performance. One of them is called 1.8-cineole - as well as smelling wonderful (if you like that sort of thing) it may act in the same way as the drugs licensed to treat dementia, causing an increase in a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine."
We are aware that plants help people with mental health issues but what if Rosemary could actually positively help reverse the effects of dementia?
